Is God Punishing Us With The Gulf Oil Spill?

June 30th, 2010

Craig asked me to comment on a video he sent me (see it below) that a preacher made asking the question “Is The Disaster in the Gulf a Sign From God?”

While researching this video, I also found another video he did linking 9/11 to the Gulf oil spill and he seems to be suggesting that God is not happy with the US policy on how we are treating Israel and that these events could be His way of telling us so.

Oral Roberts made this same type of suggestion about 9/11 years ago.

While I in no way can debate the scriptures with either of these preachers, I do have some questions that I would have for them…

1-     If God is really punishing Nations based on their support of Israel, why would he pick the country that has been the biggest supporter of Israel in history?

2-     Does this mean the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is really a punishment of the Arab countries for their treatment of the Jews?

3-     Are the Jews still Gods favorite people even though they do not believe Jesus was the true Messiah and even played a part in his death?

4-     If even after that Israel is still the chosen people and have God’s favor are they right about Jesus?

This is what the Jewish faith teaches about the Messiah…

“One Jewish understanding of the messiah is based on the writings of Maimonides, (also known as Rambam). His views on the messiah are discussed in his Mishneh Torah, his 14 volume compendium of Jewish law, in the section Hilkhot Melakhim Umilchamoteihem, chapters 11 & 12. Maimonides writes:

“The anointed king is destined to stand up and restore the Davidic Kingdom to its antiquity, to the first sovereignty. He will build the Temple in Jerusalem and gather the strayed ones of Israel together. All laws will return in his days as they were before: Sacrificial offerings are offered and the Sabbatical years and Jubilees are kept, according to all its precepts that are mentioned in the Torah. Whoever does not believe in him, or whoever does not wait for his coming, not only does he defy the other prophets, but also the Torah and Moses our teacher. For the Torah testifies about him, thus: “And the Lord Your God will return your returned ones and will show you mercy and will return and gather you… If your strayed one shall be at the edge of Heaven… And He shall bring you” etc.(Deuteronomy 30:3-5).”

“These words that are explicitly stated in the Torah, encompass and include all the words spoken by all the prophets. In the section of Torah referring to Bala’am, too, it is stated, and there he prophesied about the two anointed ones: The first anointed one is David, who saved Israel from all their oppressors; and the last anointed one will stand up from among his descendants and saves Israel in the end. This is what he says (Numbers 24:17-18): “I see him but not now” – this is David; “I behold him but not near” – this is the anointed king. “A star has shot forth from Jacob” – this is David; “And a brand will rise up from Israel” – this is the anointed king. “And he will smash the edges of Moab” – This is David, as it states: “…And he struck Moab and measured them by rope” (II Samuel 8:2); “And he will uproot all Children of Seth” – this is the anointed king, of whom it is stated: “And his reign shall be from sea to sea” (Zechariah 9:10). “And Edom shall be possessed” – this is David, thus: “And Edom became David’s as slaves etc.” (II Samuel 8:6); “And Se’ir shall be possessed by its enemy” – this is the anointed king, thus: “And saviors shall go up Mount Zion to judge Mount Esau, and the Kingdom shall be the Lord‘s” (Obadiah 1:21).”

“And by the Towns of Refuge it states: “And if the Lord your God will widen up your territory… you shall add on for you another three towns” etc. (Deuteronomy 19:8-9). Now this thing never happened; and the Holy One does not command in vain. But as for the words of the prophets, this matter needs no proof, as all their books are full with this issue.”

“Do not imagine that the anointed king must perform miracles and signs and create new things in the world or resurrect the dead and so on. The matter is not so: For Rabbi Akiva was a great scholar of the sages of the Mishnah, and he was the assistant-warrior of the king Bar Kokhba, and claimed that he was the anointed king. He and all the Sages of his generation deemed him the anointed king, until he was killed by sins; only since he was killed, they knew that he was not. The Sages asked him neither a miracle nor a sign…”

“And if a king shall arise from among the House of David, studying Torah and indulging in commandments like his father David, according to the written and oral Torah, and he will impel all of Israel to follow it and to strengthen breaches in its observance, and will fight Hashem’s [God's] wars, this one is to be treated as if he were the anointed one. If he succeeded and built a Holy Temple in its proper place and gathered the disperesed ones of Israel together, this is indeed the anointed one for certain, and he will mend the entire world to worship the Lord together, as it is stated: “For then I shall turn for the nations a clear tongue, to call all in the Name of the Lord and to worship Him with one shoulder (Zephaniah 3:9).”

“But if he did not succeed to this degree, or if he was killed, it becomes known that he is not this one of whom the Torah had promised us, and he is indeed like all proper and wholesome kings of the House of David who died. The Holy One, Blessed Be He, only set him up to try the public by him, thus: “Some of the wise men will stumble in clarifying these words, and in elucidating and interpreting when the time of the end will be, for it is not yet the designated time.” (Daniel 11:35).”

Maimonides’ views of Jesus

Main article: Judaism’s view of Jesus

According to Maimonides Jesus of Nazareth is not the Messiah.

“As for Jesus of Nazareth, who claimed to be the anointed one and was condemned by the Sanhedrin. Daniel had already prophesied about him, thus: ‘And the children of your people’s rebels shall raise themselves to set up prophecy and will stumble.’ (Ibid. 14) Can there be a bigger stumbling block than this? All the Prophets said that the anointed one saves Israel and rescues them, gathers their strayed ones and strengthens their mitzvot whereas this one caused the loss of Israel by sword, and to scatter their remnant and humiliate them, and to change the Torah and to cause most of the world to erroneously worship a god besides the Lord. But the human mind has no power to reach the thoughts of the Creator, for his thoughts and ways are unlike ours. All these matters of Yeshu of Nazareth and of Muhammad who stood up after him are only intended to pave the way for the anointed king, and to mend the entire world to worship God together, thus: ‘For then I shall turn a clear tongue to the nations to call all in the Name of the Lord and to worship him with one shoulder.’”

“How is this? The entire world had become filled with the issues of the anointed one and of the Torah and the Laws, and these issues had spread out unto faraway islands and among many nations uncircumcised in the heart, and they discuss these issues and the Torah’s laws. These say: These Laws were true but are already defunct in these days, and do not rule for the following generations; whereas the other ones say: There are secret layers in them and they are not to be treated literally, and the Messiah had come and revealed their secret meanings. But when the anointed king will truly rise and succeed and will be raised and uplifted, they all immediately turn about and know that their fathers inherited falsehood, and their prophets and ancestors led them astray.”

Basically what they are saying is our Christian religion is based on falsehoods and if that is so how can these Christian preachers that feel God still favors the Jews over all other peoples of the world, not turn away from the Christian religion and turn to the Jewish faith?

All of the answers to these questions go beyond my comprehension and can only truly be answered by God Himself.

I do agree that we Americans as well as all the Nations of the world including Israel have become a Arrogant people at times… I would go on to point out that the History of this world in general has shown disrespect for the word of God. The question is what words of God, all told by the humans of this world over the ages, do we chose to believe?

In thinking about this I keep going back to the point that if the Jews are still His chosen people and we are commanded to respect that, then why would we all not want to convert to Judaism? Or did the Jews give up that right in Gods Eyes when they played a part in the crucifixion of Christ his only Son?

I am sure that the religious scholars of the world might have answers that they would give to all my questions, but then again these answers would be their interpretations of Gods thoughts. I am not certain God would be pleased with many of mans interpretation of his teachings.

Take a look at the videos below and leave me your comments on your thoughts.

Here is the one on 9/11

I Give Obama a C- On BP Oil Disaster

May 26th, 2010

I’m finally going to make a statement that even my Republican and Libertarian friends will agree with.

Sorry Barack even I have to give you a C- on how you’re handling the oil spill in the Gulf. I would even go as far as giving you an F if you don’t soon take charge.

The Federal Government should take over this operation immediately and tell BP to move out of the way… they had their chance and now they need to step aside and stand by with check-book in hand while the Feds bring in every resource available… Hell, bring in NASA engineers and other oil company experts what ever it takes!

This is a disaster that only time will tell what the environmental and economical impact really is long term, we need to react now!

This is a quote from the Governor of Louisiana on  ABC News

Jindal Calls for More Help

Jindal warned that the state’s entire shoreline could end up polluted with black sludge if he doesn’t get more help, immediately.

“It is clear we don’t have the resources we need to protect our coast,” the Republican said. “We need more boom, more skimmers, more vacuums, more jack-up barges that are still in short supply. Let’s be clear: Every day that this oil sits is one more day that more of our marsh dies.”

You need to wake up Barack, even Jindal who is a long time supporter of a smaller Federal Government and more power back to the States knows when he needs our Governments help.

I can understand your frustration Barack…  On one hand the Republican and Libertarian say leave private industry clean up their own messes and The Federal Government has no business getting involved with the business of Big business.

They also say you should be downsizing the Federal government and giving more power back the States.  That you have no business spending tax payers money to bail out a company like GM, even though it might of saved hundreds of thousands of jobs and entire communities and States

That’s what they all said then, but now that the disaster is in their back yards you are to slow to send down Big government and all it’s tax money to help them save their economies and lifestyle.

You are to slow taking control of BP and telling them that you are now running the show … they had their shot at fixing their mess now it’s Uncle Sam’s turn.  Thank you for your efforts, were do you want us to send the bill?

OH yea and BP, if what we try first doesn’t work we are going to keep on trying 24 hours per day and hire every expert on the planet until we get this fixed… and your responsible for every penny until we do and every penny after we do.

I know Barack it’s tough to figure these guys out…  you are damned if you do and damned if you don’t,  by the  “DRILL BABY DRILL” group.

It’s time you stop trying to pander to these people… I know it was a campaign promise that you would work with everyone to get things done, but it take two to tangle and you have no willing partner at the dance my friend.

Time you start doing what you know is right.

Take over this clean-up operation… move in big government.

Stop all future new off-shore drilling… revoke your decision for new leases, you knew better.

Take this country off carbon based energy dependence and get serious about alternative fuels.

Oh yea tell Bobby Jindal, when you see him tomorrow, you are throwing the support of the entire US government as BIG as it is at his disposal.

Take charge Obama, stop trying to tip toe around these people that don’t really know what they want and talk out of both ends…

One more thing… fire who ever at the Army Core of engineers told the Governor, that they would need to do and environmental study before they could approve permits to build sand dunes to help stop the oil.

Environmental study compared to what.. Sludge hitting the marshes and destroying them compared to what?  Pull the Freaking studies out that you already did for the Hurricanes… this is one of the same proposals to help slow them down.

Environmental studies for what might happen, when you know what will happen and is happening with this crude… That guy needs to be fired today!

A Question for all you Tea Part, Republican and Libertarian friends.

What would we do if the problem wasn’t that the Feds are too slow to react, but that they were truly to small and didn’t have the resources to act?  You think any one or two states could bare the burden of a disaster like this?  You think this is the biggest problem our country will ever face going forward?

How small would you like the Federal Government to be?

How Did America Blow It?

May 16th, 2010

Listen people, we need to stop blaming the world for all our problems… the truth is we only have ourselves to blame, and here is why.

Our Financial woes:

This one is simple people… We Americans demand the highest wages we can possible get, AND we demand the lowest prices for the goods and services we purchase.

Now I ain’t no mathematician, but those there numbers will never add up!  So we the people were a big part of why our jobs were sent to countries with cheap labor and now we have no manufacturing jobs to help pull us out of this recession.

Our Country’s Debt:

You can’t fight two wars for this long, while going through one of the worst recessions this country has ever seen, and not go deep in debt.

According to an article in USA today this week http://www.usatoday.com/news/military/2010-05-12-afghan_N.htm the cost of the two wars just topped 1 Trillion dollars.   The article goes on to say:

Afghanistan will cost nearly $105 billion in the 2010 fiscal year that ends Sept. 30, including most of $33 billion in additional spending requested by Obama and pending before Congress. Iraq will cost about $66 billion. In fiscal 2011, Afghanistan is projected to cost $117 billion, Iraq $46 billion. To date, Pentagon spending in Iraq has reached $620 billion, compared with $190 billion in Afghanistan.

Further more there is only one way to bring a country out of a recession and that is to stimulate the economy with spending.  The problem is the customers can’t spend because they don’t have a job, and big business can’t spend because their sales are down.. so who does that leave?

You got it, good old Uncle Sam is the only one that can spend money it doesn’t have, simple by printing more AND that is what needs to be done to bring a country out of a recession.

The politicians can grandstand in front of the TV cameras all they want about government spending being out of control, but this is all for show… there is not one of them that doesn’t know that government spending during a recession is an evil necessity.

Okay that sets the tone for the type of subjects this blog will cover… here is a partial list of future posts just so I don’t forget:

  1. Who The Hell is This Tea Party group and just what do they stand for?
  2. Is the Federal Government Really to Big?
