Who Does The FDA Represent?

Point in fact,  94% of the additional money the FDA is asking for in the 2014 budget ($770 million out of $821 million) comes from user fees paid by the industries they regulate. The total 2014 budget if approved is $4,653,657.000, with  $2,557,693.000 coming from taxpayer and $2,095,964.000 coming from user fees, so almost 50% of their budget comes from the industries they regulate.

I would suggest that this is a conflict of interests and this is not speculation; it’s been shown to be the truth, time and time again. In 2011, the FDA found out that many studies conducted at Cetero Research, a major drug research lab they used, from 2005 to 2009 were fraudulent, involving manipulated data and tampered records. About 100 drugs were already on the market, approved, at least in part, based on these fraudulent studies.

We need the FDA to protect the American people not the profits of the pharmaceutical companies that provides 50% of their budget, something needs to change we can not allow this to continue.

Catholic Church Turns Political

For some reason the Catholic Church has determined the separation of Church and State only matters when they are protecting their rights and can be ignored at their discretion.

First let me say I am normally a proud practicing Catholic, although there has been times like the Church’s cover-up of pedophile activity by some priest and their choice to ignore the victimization of the children this effected did embarrass and sicken me, and today was another such time.

Today at mass I listened as the priest with the skills that could only be compared to a super pack political advertisement, twisting together facts and fiction to come up with something more false than true.

Somehow today’s sermon turned the fact that I am a Pro-Choice Catholic into meaning I am pro-abortion… the words pro-choice was never used, but the word pro-abortion was used many times… before I go into why this is an outright twisting of facts, let me ask one question. How many people do you know that would say they are pro-abortion?  That would mean the support abortion of life in all cases of pregnancy. Let’s examine what “Pro” means… the definition reads as “An advantage of something or an argument in favor of a course of action: “the pros and cons of joint ownership”.”  Who in their right mind would state that they favor abortion over life?

I asked the Priest on the way out of Church when did Pro-choice turn into Pro-abortion and he said “that is what it means that they advocate abortion”… how sad and how twisted is that thinking?

So for the benefit of the Priest’s across this nation that are preaching these half-truth, super pack style sermons, let this Pro-Choice Catholic educate you on what I really believe…  First I am against women getting an abortion I feel that every woman should seek and receive the counseling of their family, community, Church or professional counseling before going through with any abortion.   I am for any alternative to abortion including adopting out an unwanted child as being the best option, BUT as an American Catholic I do not feel the government should pass a law that takes this decision out of the hands of the women, and any such law would be unconstitutional.

There is a big difference between what is morally right and the rights given to us under our constitution, and the Church has every right and yes even the responsibility to preach against abortions to their parishioners, but they do not have the right to inject themselves into the political process and join the ranks of super packs on both sides that misrepresent facts with twisted logic.

The priest’s would better serve this cause by providing spiritual guidance to the young women struggling with this decision… it would be better if they counseled them  on the other choices and helped them spiritually and if needed financially towards caring the baby full term and helping them with adopting the child out to a loving family.

How many young women do not seek your counseling because they are scared to talk to a priest… they think you look at them as possible murders and lack the compassion to look at their side and help them through their struggle.

Let me spell it out one more time in closing…  I am a Catholic, I am Pro-Choice and I am against abortions, so please get your facts straight and take yourselves out of the political process… if it’s too late and you helped turn this election against the very party that supports some of the groups you support, like immigrant children, the poor whom the other side classify as self-proclaimed victims that feel entitled… if you help turn this election their way I hope you can live with the outcome when the abortion issue does not change anyway!

I have to say one thing; The American Catholic Church over the last decade has certainly helped me deepen my faith by forcing me to question it due to their actions or inaction’s and has allowed me to become closer to God than my Church because of their hypocrisies.

The Death of a Democracy

No matter who wins the 2012 election America looses… the very core of our democracy is being  exploited  and I fear it is in jeopardy of being destroyed within.

Fox News, CNBC, CNN, The Supreme Court  (Supper Pack ruling) and the Internet is killing America by blurring together facts and fiction to the point were the average American can no longer tell the difference.

The very thing that made us great, Freedom of Speech now because it is unchecked is sadly going to be what kills our democracy.  We pick our elected officials not based on facts, but based on theater and who can put out the best misleading commercials, or worst yet what sides super-pack spends the most money and comes up with the best lies to buy the election.

When I watch a commercial for either candidate, if it’s supported by the candidate I figure at best it 50% half truths and twisted facts and if it’s sponsored by a super-pack or outside organization I up that to 85%… but this is what some voters base their vote on.

Fox News and CNBC cancel each other out as far as right and left wing bias journalism and depending on who you want to support you can get reinforcement in both places… I will watch neither!

Facebook, Twitter, blogs and the Internet in general gives anyone with Internet access a voice to write and say anything they want and spread it with the speed of light…. Notice that most things that go viral, on politics when fact checked are false and that’s on both sides.

Because we Americans love our freedom, this is not going to change and sadly elections will be won and lost based more on fiction than on facts… I ask you to do one thing no matter who you support, when you see that facebook post, or get that email or see that super pack add on TV that SUPPORTS how you already feel… fact check it at places like factcheck.org or there are other places.

You might not agree with me politically,   but please trust that when I say most everything you read online and see on the extreme left or right news channels need to be fact checked… just because it supports what you already believe does not automatically make it true.

I know right away when my side is lying or telling half truths and I don’t like it, but until we as American Voters tell them that we had enough and show them they have no effect both sides will keep using them… As an American voter I am sickened by the modern political process and can come to only one conclusion because I don’t see it changing… America Democracy is DEAD and has been killed by 24 hours news channels, social media and the super-packs… how sad is it that the very thing that has made us great “Freedom of Speech” has been turned against us by modern technology?

Wake up America tell both parties enough is enough!

Fist let me make it clear, America is NOT broken… it’s our political system that is broke and needs fixed.  Below I will explain why I say this and go on to give my take on a solution to this problem.

Causes of America’s Broken Political System

First I’m going to list the causes and then I will talk in more detail about each.

#1 – 24 hour news channels, like CNN and Fox news.

#2 – The Internet.

#3 – Special Interest (Right and Left) money.

I’ll start with #1… Because of the 24 hour news channels this country is in a constant state of re-election.  We have a major election every two year, where all 435 House of Representatives and 1/3 of the Senate is up for reelection, plus on one of those two year cycles the President is up for reelection.

Because of the pressure for TV rating and the competition among States to grab primary headlines our election campaigns start 18 months before the election.  This gives our Government six months to where they COULD MAYBE do some good for the country in a bipartisan way.  The rest of the time they are trying to get themselves or their buddies reelected and sadly that usually means trying to make the other side look bad or in the case of Congress, at least look worst then you.   Just six months out of every two years… Now that is broken Politics.

#2 – The Internet… The Internet in itself is a great way for people to stay in touch with their elected officials and a great way for them to read the heartbeat of Americans, but here is the problem.

The willingness of some people or groups (Right and Left), weather for kicks or other hidden agendas, to spread falsities or half truths around the Internet at lightning speed has hurt our Political process, but this is not the real reason I list the Internet.

The Internet has caused our society to be one of ” Instant Gratification”… it does not seem to matter if the economic problems of today were 20 years in the making, if they aren’t fixed now then we are pissed.  And Lord help you if you propose and implement a solution that doesn’t fix everything in two years, then your policies don’t work and your no good…  and if you don’t believe me just turn on one of those 24 hour news channels and surf until you find someone to confirm your feelings.  Instant Gratification in Governments… Now that is broken Politics.

#3 – Special Interest (Right and Left) money… I have said it many times before, if I could pass just one law that would help not only this country but the world, it would be to outlaw lobbyists.  Sadly the Supreme court has given them even more power to buy elections, so this problem is probably here to stay. Special interest groups (left and right) spending billions on elections… Now this is broken Politics.

Solutions for Debate

The solution for problem #1 –  Extend the term of the Presidency and Congress to a six year term like the Senate…  Now stick with me, I know I just sent shivers up the spines of all you anti Obama people… Lord knows I feel the same way about the prospect that Bush would still be in office , but hear me out.

First off Obama would not be eligible under my plan… you see it would take a 2nd term President to get this passed, one that would not be effected by the change.  So if for no other reason we should reelect Obama to start this process, that and the fact that the radical alternatives to Obama would be a disastrous choice in this economic climate is enough to give him my vote… but I digress.

We do this with everyone serving a six year term, with the House and the Senate staggering their members term to whereas 50% of them are up for reelection every three years.

Along with these changes we must implement a law that somehow restricts campaign activities to the current 18 months before an election.  This would allow our government to govern for at least 18 months out of every 3 year cycle, up from the current 6 months out of the current 2 year cycle.

It would still give the people the power to change the direction of the government by replacing 50% of Congress every three years if so desired.

The solution for problem #2 – We are not going to change societies instant gratification syndrome… this is beyond anyone’s capabilities and the efforts would be lost in gridlock, but my solution to problem #1 would at least give our elected officials time to govern with less of a worry about this knee jerk instant gratification mentality.

The solution for problem #3 – Because the courts would shoot down any attempt to outlaw lobbyists, as unconstitutional I would demand the the FTC  to do their jobs under the current law… they are to protect consumers from deceptive advertising and they need to do this for all Political ads, both from the right and the left.

We need to do away with these misleading and half truths political ads.. We the people deserve to be told facts and the truth so that we can make an informed decision not based on lies.  This sword cuts both ways no matter which political party you are affiliated with and as far as I’m concerned is fair to both parties.

This world has changed because of modern media, and our Government needs to change with the times, so that it can better serve it’s people… Lord knows it’s not working right now.

America’s broken Political system needs to be reformed… When are we going to wake up America?
